The problem and the solution

February 29, 2012

We are the solutionThe winter has passed and we are heading toward the spring. It’s been a difficult winter with the whole world in a deep crisis and Greece in the middle of it. We could talk a lot about who’s to blame for the crisis and how we came this deep in the shit. Is it the banks, is it the corrupt politicians, is it the Germans, is it the little green people from a faraway star…?

Well, it could be all their fault but basically it has to do with a system that promotes and encourages greed and selfishness on all levels. The last years all we could think of was that we want more and bigger and faster and more expensive stuff. We have come to find it normal that everything is measured in money. We even hear on the news that “the damage caused by the fires is estimated at X billion euros”. How can you ever measure the perishing of trees and animals and lives in euros?!

And of course we are part of the problem! To quote a famous Irishman:

“All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing”

Edmund Burke

And at the same time, we are also the solution! To quote a famous Greek:

“Love responsibility. Say: It is my duty, and mine alone, to save the earth. If it is not saved, then I alone am to blame.”

Nikos Kazantzakis

So, let’s start taking responsibility and saving the Earth!
